Each mammal species is described individually, a table provides basic record details, and a map illustrates the mammals' distribution in Great Britain and the Channel Islands up to 1959 and from 1960. In all, 65 mammals are listed which range from the mole, the most commonly recorded species, to the greater white-toothed shrew for which only five records exist.
