Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kansas City Medical Journal, Vol. 3: April, 1873 My colleague, Dr. Samter, who has charge of the female wards of the City Hospital, has adopted my method of treat ment, and neither of us has thus far lost a single case of ery sipelas, although many very advanced cases have been sent to us, completely exhausted, and with gangrenous destruction of the skin of entire arms and lower thighs. The treatment is a combination of several factors, the object of which is, on the One hand, a repression of the development and of the extension of the globular bacteriums, and, on the other, the support of the resisting power of the organism, the activity of the heart, by stimulation and an easily digestible diet.
