More specifically, it provides a measure of the cost to the industry of adopting pollution prevention and abatement technologies and other environmental protection practices. Data included in Environmental protection expenditures in the business sector are components of a National Statistical Database on the Environment Industry, one of the elements of the Strategy for the Canadian Environment Industry, led by Industry Canada and Environment Canada. This Environment Industry Strategy consists of several initiatives targeted at supporting the development and marketing of innovative environmental technologies, and at improving access to domestic and global market opportunities for Canadian companies, including a commitment to improve information about the Canadian Environment Industry. Statistics Canada has been asked to establish the National Statistical Database. The document presents comparisons of current year spending with previous year expenditures.
