He married his first wife Patsy (Martha) Vaughan in 1789 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. After her death, he married Ann Hester in 1805. They moved to Maury County, Tennessee, approximately 10 years later. Then 5 years after that, they moved to Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Francis died there around 1821. Descendants and relatives were living in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and elsewhere.
