Book excerpt: The low-frequency approximations ('closed form' and series) derived previously for the fields scattered by elliptic cylinders, and by semi-elliptic protuberances, are applied numerically. For the two cases, E or H parallel to the generators, the results presented include total scattering cross sections, forward and back scattered intensity and phase curves, and far field scattering patterns; for various angles of incidence, various eccentricities, and for various values of Ra equal to or less than 1.1 (where R 2 pi/lambda and 2a is the major axis of the scatterers). Attention is restricted to the low-frequency range not covered by published tables of Mathieu functions.
