This is his first work issued on the microscopic objects found in the stools of patients with cholera, which contained the first authentic account of amoebas from the human intestine. While studying chyluria (the presence of lymphatic fluid in urine) in India, he discovered minute worms in the urine of one of his patients, which he identified as Filariidae. Two years later (in teh present report) he found similar worms in the blood sample of the same patient. Through detailed examination, Lewis gives the first account of microfilariae in human blood and reveals its connection with chyluria and elephantiasis.
