The purpose of this study is to conduct a risk assessment of cooking fires in the city of Tamarac and determine national strategies for the prevention of these fires. Descriptive research was used to answer the following questions: a. What are the occupancies where the fires are occurring? b. Where did the fires originate? c. How many fires spread from the point of origin? d. Are there any common human behaviors associated with cooking fires in Tamarac? e. What national prevention strategies are available for reducing these fires? The procedures included a comprehensive review of research about cooking/kitchen fires in the United States and a focused risk assessment using data from January 1, 2006, through December 31, 2010, where cooking/kitchen fires were the origin of the fires.
