Book excerpt: Plasma focus discharges were used to generate high-intensity deuteron beams about 10 to the 5th power Amp) with about or> 300-keV-peaked spectrum and electron beams, with an energy distribution similarly peaked at 300-400 keV. The energy spectrum is determined by two independent methods (time of flight and target-damage data). The spectrum varies from shot to shot but the main features are observed in all discharges. In each discharge we observe on a time interval of 100-300 nanosec a sequence of beam pulses (1-10), with the same multiplicity of the peaks in the electrode-current variations. Correlation coefficients between x-ray and neutron yield in D2 discharges and beam parameters have been determined by a variety of conditions for the PF (bank voltage, filling pressure, circuit inductance). The power level of both ions and electron beam is about 0.1-1TW/sq cm. (Author).
