Book excerpt: Thirteen different flush mounted pressure transducers of seven manufacturers were tested by creating a thermal gradient in them and recording the resultant zero shifts.Photographs of typical outputs are shown and the results are compard.Atypical recording shows these general characteristics; (1) a very rapid change in output reaching a peak in a second or less, (2) a more gradual shift which reaches a peak in a time which may be a few seconds or more than a minute, and (3) a shift in reading which remains as long as the gradient is maintained.Examples were found in which each of these were positive or negative. The magnitude in a few cases was small, in many was a large fraction of its range, and in one case well in excess of the full scale range.(Author).
