It attempts to identify the determinants of female migration by testing two conventional migration models: the individual human capital approach and the unified household approach. Major determinants include economic factors (net income gains), demographic factors, non-economic factors (individual perspectives or motivations toward life, marriage and work) and household members' role at home (Z-goods production: cooking, washing, cleaning, shopping, child care and elderly care). We find contrasting results from the comparison of the two models using the same Malaysia data.
