Environmental education strives to inform students about these issues, and encourages them to be environmental stewards. It is useful for teachers to gain an understanding of the environmental attitudes of students prior to teaching about environmental issues. In this project, an environmental attitude survey was created and administered to 80 ninth grade physical science students in a suburban Minnesota high school. Overall, the results showed that most students were neutral towards statements related to interest in environmental protection. Furthermore, students neither agreed nor disagreed with statements related to their ability to make a difference in environmental protection. When the results were broken down into gender sub-groups, females had a more positive attitude toward the environment than males."--leaf 4.
