This book is the result of unhurried effort which has been maintained until the writer is convinced that both procedure and material are satisfactory. People are chiefly interested in the history of any particular thing because it gives them an account of how the present came to be what it is. The resources available for this study are so extensive that selection has been necessary. The sources mainly used have been North Carolina Manuals, Biennial Reports of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, School Catalogues, Year Books, histories and Law Books. The purpose of the study has made it seem desirable to quote extensively form these sources, ans also from certain other secondary sources. This manuscript is divided into nine major divisions. These are: I. Preface, II. Acknowledgement, III. Biographies, IV. Historical Statement, V. Records and Reports Pertaining to the College, VI. Present History, VII. Board of Trustees, VIII. Budget, IX. Bibliography. This manuscript gives a complete record of the development and progress of the Fayetteville State Teachers College; however, I hope that as years pass, more material will be gathered on the subject.
