Book excerpt: Abstract: A handbook provides administrators with information needed to establish nutrition services within a family planning setting. Nutrition, under Title X, is an allowable reimbursable service; it is not a mandated service. Family planning providers often become the nutrition educators and must be taught basic nutrition concepts; however in most cases, the information is best disseminated by a nutritionist. Three steps are recommended prior to establishing a nutrition service: assessment, planning, and implementation and evaluation. The number of visits will determine the level of care required. Charts are included to help assess staff needs and nutrition problems. Sample forms (for assessment purposes) and an annotated bibliography are provided. (kbc).
