Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Devon Herd Book, Vol. 3: Containing the Names and Pedigrees of Devon Cattle, and the Prizes They Have Gained, With the Names of Their Breeders and Owners Dick Taylor 486 (alias Logan), imported in 1860, and after use was slaughtered by Mr. Patterson. Sterling Price 686, calved in 1862, bred by Mr. Patterson, was his next breeding bull, though not imported. The President 639, imported in 1868, was just turned in with the regular herd of the late George Patterson two weeks before his death, and was purchased by S. T. C. Brown of Sykesville, Md., brother-in-law of Mr. Patterson, with about 33 head of young heifers and cows, at the public sale in March, 1870. Mr. Brown, as agent of his niece, the only child of Mr. George Patterson, has the entire charge of the Patterson estate. This herd is now for the first time entered for record, and is found in this 3d volume of the American Devon Herd Book.
