The Region yields about 40 percent of the timber harvested from the entire National Forest System; contains 18 percent of all the classified Wilderness in the country; accounts for 17 percent of National Forest visits, and produces 54 percent of total National Forest receipts. This report documents some of the highlights of the Region's National Forests in meeting a wide array of local and regional needs, and also in making a substantial contribution in meeting National demands.
