Promotion was found to have a significantly related to relationship with colleagues (relationship with peers, relationship with subordinated, and relationship with supervisor). This finding suggests that if the academic dean is satisfied with promotion opportunities at his or her college, then a positive relationship between the dean and his college is likely to exist. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to assess whether significant differences existed in the means of job satisfaction with institutional characteristics and the importance of position characteristics when compared by demographic variables. There were no significant differences were found when controlling for gender, age, ethnicity, years as a dean, years as a dean at their current institution, annual salary, institution location, campus size, and institution size.
