Book excerpt: The Republic of Venda lies between latitudes 22 degree South and 24 degree South and longitudes 29 degree East and 32 degree East. A narrow buffer zone separates Venda from the Limpopo river, the southern border of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia. It borders on the Kruger National Park and Gazankulu in the east and south-east while in the south and west it borders with White farms of the Republic of South Africa. Venda, is the traditional territory of the Vhavenda and the third of South Africa's emerging states to be granted sovereign independence in terms of the policy of multinational development for the various disparate peoples which history has brought together within the borders of South Africa.
