In this process, ammonia is initially oxidized to nitric oxide at medium pressure (4 - 6 bar abs). Then, gases from nitric oxide is oxidized to form nitrogen dioxide, as the gas passes through piping and heat exchangers for cooling; compressed (to 7 - 12 bar abs); and absorbed (at high pressure) by water producing 65 wt% Nitric Acid.
