Book excerpt: Current operating practice in the trucking industry related to tire pressures and truck tires are summarized. Findings of recent (since 1987) pertiment pavement performance research including both full-scale and analytical pavement response and performance studies are discussed. Pertinent findings developed in previous literature reviews are also included. Regulatory approaches developed by the various states based on information from a telephone survey conducted during July and August 1991 are included. Economic analyses are used to compare the increased annualized bituminous pavement rehabilitation costs with trucking industry benefits. Recommendations regarding the regulation of wide-base truck tires are presented.
